I produce hand crafted bags and accessories working with a wide range of materials but I especially enjoy Harris Tweed® and Liberty of London fabrics. All of my Harris Tweed is sourced directly from weavers in the Outer Hebrides and I label my Harris Tweed products in compliance with the requirements of the Harris Tweed Authority so you know it’s genuine. I am also always on the look out for quality leather and distinctive hardware to incorporate into my work.

“Fabulous fabrics and finish. So unique and practical….” – Dee

The Harris Tweed Authority (HTA) is the legal guardian of Harris Tweed® and the Orb trademark with powers granted by the Harris Tweed Act of Parliament 1993. Only tweed that bears the Authority Orb Mark can be deemed to be genuine Harris Tweed. Harris Tweed is a natural fibre textile, handwoven with a soft, open weave and made from wool. The word Tweed derives from the Scots word Tweel or Twill, a type of weave common to the cloth. Harris Tweed is a tweed from yarn which is dyed and spun in the Scottish Outer Hebrides and woven by hand in homes of local crofters. HTA describes the fabric as “Soft, tactile, breathable, warm, colourful, sustainable, adaptable…while still retaining its heritage of practicality and longevity”.

“The role of the Harris Tweed Authority is to promote and maintain the authenticity, standard and reputation of the world famous Harris Tweed cloth. We oversee the production and inspection of the cloth from start to finish. Only when satisfied that the article is genuinely deserving of our historic Orb will we brand the cloth with the certification mark. The mark of the Orb, also found on the traditional label affixed to finished items, guarantees the highest quality tweed – dyed, spun and handwoven by islanders of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland in their homes to the laws outlined in the Harris Tweed Act of Parliament.” Lorna Macaulay, CEO, Harris Tweed Authority
